Greencastle is a royal castle built in about 1250, prominently sited on a rocky outcrop close to Greencastle Point. It commands the narrow entry to Carlingford Lough and features a large rectangular keep with substantial 15th- and 16th-century alterations. The site includes a rock-cut ditch, curtain walls with corner towers, and the remains of other buildings in the ward.
